LOTTE JACOBI

(1896-1990)

Born in Prussia (now Poland) in 1896, Lotte Jacobi was a German-American photographer. She was born Johanna Alexandra Jacobi but used the nickname her father gave her ‘Lotte’. She lived in Berlin from 1925 until 1935; New York City from 1935 until 1955; and New Hampshire from 1955 until her death in 1990. She is best known for her portraits which include sitters such as Marc Chagall (1887-1985), Albert Einstein (1879-1955), Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962) and Alfred Stieglitz (1864-1946).
