JEANETTE BERNARD
(1855-1941)
Jeanette Bernard, a prolific American amateur photographer and music teacher had her work published in many weekly illustrated newspapers between 1904-1924. She won Leslie’s Weekly magazine ‘Best Amateur Photographer of 1907’. This magazine published Bernard’s photographs most frequently, and she also featured in The Evening Mail, Illustrated Saturday Magazine, Browning’s Magazine, and the Youth’s Companion. According to photo historian Naomi Rosenblaum, Bernard may also have submitted her work to Kodak for inclusion in advertisements. Bernard married Louis in 1892, and adopted a teenage daughter, Minnie Fennel, who married Frank Keyser and all lived under the same roof. Minnie later named her daughter Jeanette in honour of her adoptive mother.
